La dégradation des terres La dégradation des terres a pratiquement augmenté depuis une soixantaine d’années, au Nord comme au Sud, du fait de la croissance démographique et de l’expansion industrielle. La lutte contre ce processus est devenue une priorité, notamment dans les pays du Sud où vivent 75% de l’humanité et où les trois-quarts de la population travaillent dans le secteur agricole. Restaurer des terres dégradées coûte cher, au moins 100 fois plus que de faire de la prévention. Pour faire de la prévention, il faut d’abord évaluer l’état actuel et les causes de la dégradation des terres. L’une des contraintes majeures pour faire cette évaluation a été, jusqu’à présent, le manque d’une procédure harmonisée au niveau international.
